MINI NEWSLETTER – SPRING 2011 |
Greetings dear women
A long long time and many events have passed since my last newsletter. To all who have suffered disruptions, shocks and losses in any way in this last year - and I know for some they have been profound - I send love and thoughts, and hopes that new blessings will blossom from those wounds, just as Spring is flowering so ecstatically amongst the rubble.
Change and unpredictability have become the new familiars, at least here in Christchurch, and while the past year has been grievous and arduous for many there is also a spiritual exhilaration in the knowledge that we can never go “back to normal” from where we now stand. Forward is the only option open to us, and because that way leads into the unknown and unknowable, we are shocked into the vivid realisation that our future really is up to us, and dependent on what we value and choose right now. There is no conveyor belt carrying our lives along into a predictable future. We must create those steps ourselves, according to what we really believe in.
Now as never before we have a chance to own up to what has been destructive and deadening in our cultural habits, and to begin afresh, not by hastily reconstructing what we had before, but by setting entirely new foundations. Do we have the courage to now bring feminine values, knowledge, priorities and love forward into authority, the re-authoring of our collective human story? For so long we women have tried to bring ourselves into the balance of world affairs by adapting ourselves to fit and function as men do in the cultures they have shaped. The prejudice against feminine ways of being is so old in our history that it has come to seem like “reality”, even to ourselves. What will it take, now, for us to once again believe that the inclinations, yearnings and impulses of our soft feminine hearts can truly be the guide for human redemption? To believe that our menstruality-honed nature, forged and refined by its lifelong sequence of incessant change, can contribute the truly alternative answers that are needed and have been missing for so long.
More than ever before we now need Conscious Menstruality practitioners – women who are virtuosi at living by the Laws of Nature, trusting how they work, and embracing change without resistance. Women who know that “the real world” is the one inside us, the one we long for in our heart of hearts. Women
who trust their own intuition and nurturing wisdom, and who possess the confidence to take responsibility in the world based upon these. Let us remember in these times of change and upheaval that the Planet is feminine, a mother. We can understand ourselves if we are willing to understand Nature. We can understand Nature if we are willing to understand ourselves…

Meeting with a Guru |
I recently had an encounter with a teacher who told me something that felt like a message for all of us.
Returning from the realms of the sleep state to the dayworld one morning, I was zooming rapidly across a vast, flat, empty plain in sepia half-light. Suddenly I was startled to see in the middle of that barren expanse a Japonica Tree, massive and magnificent, resplendent with big red blossoms. It really was an arresting sight, and I halted mid-flight in front of it, awed by its beauty and air of self-possession. “How do you do that?” I asked, and the tree replied “I say Yes to my own Nature”.
With a heart full of gratitude I resumed my journey back to waking life, amazed that this mystic tree had distilled into seven simple words the whole teaching of Conscious Menstruality: “I say yes to my own Nature”. Conscious Menstruality is the path by which we can discover just what that Nature is. Then the Yes - a word so small but so very powerful; a word that can be said in an instant, but which also takes a whole lifetime to say - is all that is needed to make that Nature blossom so radiantly it can light up a whole desert.
Imagine your life with that Yes in it… Imagine a world full of women saying Yes to their own Nature…

An Interesting Thing About Courage |
Do you know that feeling when someone points out a thing so simple and sense-making that you are astounded you never saw it before? I recently learned in that way that the word Courage (as you may know already) comes from the French word Coeur – Heart. Coeur-age, perhaps, means bringing our heart in fully to support us when a lot is being asked of us.
We may be tempted to think of Courage as not being afraid, or being able to override fear and vulnerability to achieve something. But what if Courage means doing that thing heartfully, being motivated by love for ourself or another. I have found this little grain of knowledge so helpful – at times when I may have been tempted to try summoning extra strength or resolve to push through something, to ask instead what would my heart say about this, or how would it wish to help me…
In these times of change and uncertainty I wish you a warm and reassuring experience of your own Coeur-age. May you always remember you need go no further than your own heart to find the love that is the source of all Courage.
The woman who inspired me about Coeur-age is Brene Brown, an American social worker who possesses that special kind of wisdom that is brilliantly simple. She speaks of courage, vulnerability and other things, and if you want a dose of really beautiful and down-to-Earth inspiration I recommend you Google her and listen to some of her TED talks.

FOLLOWUP/REFRESHER EVENINGS FOR WOMEN WHO HAVE
COMPLETED FOUNDATION CONSCIOUS MENSTRUALITY COURSES
From time to time women on Luna House courses have expressed the wish for ongoing opportunities to deepen our knowledge and understanding of Conscious Menstruality, and be supported in putting it into practice in daily life.
It has always been my belief that such gatherings will provide the richest learning and co-creating of Conscious Menstruality in the real world. If there is enough interest these sessions could become a regular feature. I would see them as opportunities for women to bring questions, requests for support or further learning in particular aspects of their Menstruality, inspirations and insights to share, ideas for topics, etc. I will provide some input, but the focus will be on shared learning.
The first evening will be for women who have already completed a course or workshop on Menstrual Cycles:
TAKING IT DEEPER: LIVING OUR MENSTRUAL CYCLES CONSCIOUSLY
WHEN: Friday 4th November, 7-9pm, at Luna House
COST: $20 (neg)
REGISTRATION REQUIRED by Sunday 3oth October
Please inform me of any questions/requests for the evening on registration.
Hot Drinks provided. You are welcome to bring nibbles to share.

Summer Solstice Letter 2010 |
Silent night
Holy night
A very special invitation for us |
Dear Friends
Joyous greetings to everyone at this sublime moment in our year’s cycle when the Light reaches its apex. It is a wonderful time to be alive!
Here in the glory of Summer Solstice, everything is illuminated. And this year we have an even more profound experience of illumination… a very special gift from the Universe. This Summer Solstice brings us the lightest night possible: our shortest darkness made undark by the co-incidence of the fullness of the moon with the fullness of our year. How magical is that!
And because in the realm we live in everything is mirrored by its opposite, this fullest possible Light will embrace darkness in a most exquisite way. On this auspicious night as our full-summer full-moon rises over our horizon it will embody the darkness of our own shadow in a total eclipse (Earth’s shadow cast by the sun onto the moon).
This extraordinary event brings an invitation of the greatest importance to each of us in our personal life, and to the consciousness of humanity as a whole. Just as the white half of the Yin Yang symbol has at its heart a dot of the black half, so our own life’s light cannot be true, cannot be complete, unless it is willing to embrace our darkness. Now more than ever before we are asked to open to the wholeness of ourselves – to bring everything into the light of awareness. Our Conscious Menstruality practice shows us that there can be no perfection until there is wholeness, until every part of our nature is recognised as essential, known, accepted and included.
On this holy night where darkness will be embraced and cradled by Light there in the sky for all to see, what can you bring to be healed? To be uncovered? To receive Light? To be cleansed, forgiven, eased, unburdened, cleared? To be loved? Can we be willing to acknowledge under this healing moon our deepest, most tender fears; our self-doubt; our hurt, contracted scars where we’ve been wounded or shocked? Can we bring our weariness, our limits, our lacks, our secret negativity; our sharp and jagged edges where life has torn us? Can we bring ourselves, on this redemptive night, to accept our own darkness, to own it, to simply hold it open to the Light?
Listen to the word en-light-en-ment. It is not just “light”. It is a gradual word, involving both light and darkness and a relational process between them. The Divine Christ-Light in this holy season brings the message of redemption, healing (making whole), bringing darkness to the light, bringing light to the darkness. This year, in its marvelously simple and graphic way, the moon will show us how!
On this night the cycle that usually takes a whole month will be accelerated. The moon will wane, become dark, wax and be full again right before our eyes in mere minutes! Her inclusion of darkness, the darkness of our collective shadow on Earth, will bring about the most wondrous re-emergence of light, of wholeness. What has been out of awareness comes into awareness. Friends, we are urgently invited to accelerate our consciousness. Our world desperately needs an awakening. Our shadow is being revealed to us as we make our planet unlivable. Only by being willing to see and take responsibility for our darkness can we bring it into the light. We will be brought to this moment, whether we like it or not. How much better to go willingly!
This year, in this very special way, it is the moon, the Feminine principle of our Cosmos, who beams the message down for us.

the return of the Light to the world requires and will be inspired by
the return of The Feminine to the balance of human consciousness |
Wherever you are on Solstice Night (Tuesday 21st) I wish you a profoundly healing (whole-ing) night. You will have the opportunity to feel new light penetrating what has been in the darkness within you – parts of you that have been afraid, hurt, betrayed, mistreated, doubtful, hidden, unexpressed, or simply unknown to you.
I will be on the cliff tops at Scarborough from 8.30pm on that night, and you are very welcome to join me there. Bring your prepared heart, warm clothing, and something to sit on. And supper to share if you wish.
If the weather is too bad for being outside, then come to Luna House at 8pm. Again, bring your prepared heart, a candle, supper, and a koha for Luna House if you would like to. If in doubt phone 332 5755 to check – if you get 8 rings then the answer machine, I’ve gone to Scarborough.
We are living in times of very significant change for humanity, and we are being shown in beautiful ways what is needed to meet those changes. Let’s open our arms and our hearts to our shadow on this night of transformational potential.
I very much look forward to sharing Luna House events with many of you around the country in 2011. Thankyou to all of you who have made them so warm, beautiful and special during 2010.
May the lovelight of summer solstice fill your heart with joy
With love to you all

A Letter in Times of Change |

Dear Women
Warmest greetings to all of you – so many battered by storms throughout the land as I write this – and especially to those of you in Christchurch. We are all affected in varying ways by the upheavals occurring in our Earth, and for those of us living here in the heart of it, the awareness that Change is upon us is inescapable.
To those who have experienced terror, loss, damage, dislocation and all manner of disruptions to what we believed our ongoing reality would be, I send my love and thoughts. Some of these losses are unmeasurable really, and some are invisible and not even easily nameable. For many, they will continue to be felt, perhaps even more acutely, as the weeks and months of our altered lives go on.
I also acknowledge all who are feeling the fatigue, strange sensations and ongoing strain of the aftershocks. This is a very major energetic event, and the effects on our own energy are profound. As well as ripping open the ground under our feet, the earthquakes have stressed interior psychological and emotional fault lines we may not even have known were in us. It really is a time of accelerated awareness of ourselves, our own hidden or underground aspects, the balance and imbalance in our lives, meaning systems and relationships. The phrase no stone left unturned suddenly takes on a very real and physically felt significance.
We are shocked in the intensity of this Change – not for nothing do we speak of shock waves and aftershocks. Because of our own tiny timeframes and structures, these shifts seem unbearably sudden, destructive and violent. And yet we know as women, and in terms of our own Menstruality, that all life, growth and development moves in cycles of Change. Our Mother’s cycles are so long compared to ours, but she does move in cycles, and Change is inevitable and a Law of Nature. We know, too, that all destruction is part of a cycle of renewal; that all dis-integration opens the way for re-integration. Now the challenge is to stay open to the Big Picture of Change as we go through the de-structive phase of it. Planet Earth has always re-shaped and re-balanced herself by earthquakes. The land we live on was formed by them. Our Planet is not a still or static thing. Her mighty Cosmic Om is sung in aeonic booms of thousands and millions of years, while our monthly and lifetime Om-shaped cycles are like tiny flickers in comparison.
Here in Christchurch there is a mystery going on that is poignant, ineffable, utterly tear-provoking. The whole city is covered with the most delicate and exquisite singing Beauty. Amongst the rubble, the mess, the liquefaction, the cracks and rips, traffic jams, polluted waterways and cordons, the most unbelievable proliferation of flowers is telling us another story. Daffodils, camellias, blossoms, magnolias, tree flowers, ground flowers of every kind are opening their sweet and gracious hearts to us. Birds sing for the sheer delight of it, ducklings abound on the river, grass is growing riotously – everywhere an inextinguishable Spring is welling up out of the very same Earth that is groaning and slumping. In the same moment that things come crashing down, life is renewing itself with joyous abandon. Cycles within cycles; hope within fear; joy within sorrow; fresh beginnings even as the old crumbles away.
Many have commented on the glorious view of the stars that was gifted to us that night. Ejected from our beds, out from under our habitual roofs of oblivion, deprived of the artificial light with which we like to deny darkness – there in that eerie stillness and silence that followed the roar and chaos was the Cosmos in which Earth sails, showing us our place in the scheme of things. Reminding us, surely, to wake up to where we live and begin to take care of this delicate and ailing Planet, our Earth, our only home.
Let us be gentle with ourselves and each other as we feel the Magnitude of Change that has come, and will keep coming. It is all around us, and within us. For those of you who are familiar with and practicing Conscious Menstruality in your own lives, now is the time to dig keep for the courage it takes to engage with and have faith in Change. Big Change! Can we respond care-fully to the feelings that flare in us (our own and others’) as our world is shaken? Can we gently expect and accept our fear – it is inevitable and blameless, and like a child’s, needs to be met with utmost love. Can we still trust our Earth, her beauty and bounty, even as her Changes rock and frighten us? It is not easy, and asks us to really look for the heart of what we believe in.
I know that many of you will have wise insights and perhaps messages that you might like to share with other Luna House women at this time. If you have anything you would like to be passed on, please send it to me and I will forward it. Please indicate whether your message is just for Christchurch women, or for our whole extended community around the country.
Rest well, dear women, in the calm times, and drink deeply of the Beauty that is present to remind us that renewal is right here within the de-struction. This is a time of care and recovery, even while we are still in the midst of uncertainty.
And please, wherever you live, make sure you are prepared for the unexpected. Let your safety and wellbeing matter enough to provide the things you would need should an emergency strike where you are. If the Planet is deciding to wake us up, we can be sure that we are all invited into the new awareness.
May each and every one of us receive some blessing, some renewal, here in this crucible of Change.
Much love to you all
Jane Catherine
